Everyone knows “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” It actually took about 500 years. Sometimes great things require patience and waiting. If you’ve ever waited for God to show you His design and path, it might feel like 500 years has passed.
Early on in Abraham’s life, God promised that he would make a great nation from his family. Long after Sarah’s childbearing years, God told Sarah she was pregnant. Genesis 17:17 said, “Abraham fell to the ground, laughed, and told himself, ‘Can a child be born to a 100-year-old man? Can a 90-year-old Sarah give birth?” Though he did not believe, Sarah did bear a son named Isaac, whom, in turn, bore a great nation.
Sometimes God doesn’t give us what we want or need right away. But that doesn’t mean that he has forgotten. Just like the story of Sarah and Abraham, God waited until the perfect moment to reveal all of His power. Have patience the next time you feel like God isn’t listening.
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. — Psalm 37:7-8
