“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12 NIV
Every morning, you wake up, roll out of bed, and drink your morning cup of tea or coffee. Perhaps your morning ritual includes Bible reading, watching the news, or taking a walk outside. I don’t know for certain what you do do, but, I know one thing for sure: you’re going to get dressed.
No one goes outside without pants on or to the grocery store without a shirt. Even writers who work in their PJs make sure they are clothed when they go into public. It’s just what you do. This Bible verse encourages us as Christians to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. This means more than just emulating those traits, we need to cover ourselves with them, masking our human tendencies.
Just as you would not walk outside naked, do not leave the house without your kindness and compassion. As Christians it is important that we cast off sinful thoughts and embrace our fellow humans in love. Try this as you interact with people today.
Prayer: Dear God, help me cover myself in gentleness and patience. Help me to love my fellow humans and show them your compassion. Amen
