“You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.” Psalm 139:5 (NLT)
Have you ever gotten lost in a crowd? It’s a terrifying feeling to be following someone and have them just disappear in between the shoving elbows of the throng. But isn’t it equally terrifying to be the person going first, leading a group when you don’t know where exactly you’re going? For me, this passage brings to mind the crowds that come out at Disney World during the fireworks. It can be so easy to get lost and disoriented, but I keep my hand on my husband and follow him, knowing that he will deliver me from the crushing crowds.
God knows when we are afraid. The journey of life is at times confusing, terrifying, and can make you feel very lost. Because of this, he does not just go before us, he also follows behind, hemming us in so we are completely safe from the hordes of evil pressing in upon us. We can relax and just follow him, knowing he is leading us to safety, and knowing he has our back.
Take some time today to recognize where you need to follow God better and ask him to help you feel his peace.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me feel your guidance leading me on the path I need to go. Help me feel at peace with where I am in life and look to you to lead me. Amen.
