“Then the Lord told him, ‘I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land.'” Exodus 3:7-8a (NLT)
As I read the book of Exodus, I was struck by how long the children of Israel suffered before God acted. Can you relate? Do you have a struggle in your life, and you’ve cried out to God, and it seems He is slow in delivering you?
God reveals something comforting in these verses. He sees, He hears, He is aware, and He has come to rescue.
As much as I chafe against God’s timing, there is a beautiful layering of His plans in Exodus. Not only is He choosing the right time to deliver the Israelites, this is part of the larger plan to protect this nation who will be the means of bringing Jesus into the world—also at the perfect time.
There are many heart longings that I’ve brought to God for years, and the fulfillment hasn’t yet arrived. But I can trust that He knows every detail of my struggles and He cares. He is unfolding the best answer in the best timing.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we wait on You for answers – for the wandering family member to be restored, for health to return, for a job, or a home. Renew our trust in Your love and in Your perfect timing. Amen.
