“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” I Timothy 2:1-2 NIV
Do you pray for your leaders? It’s easy to forget them in our nightly prayers, focused on the direct needs of family, friends, and our own lives. But as we debate and discuss our leaders and their choices, we need to be praying for them as well.
Whenever the world is in a divisive situation, it can be easy to draw firm lines in the sand between yourself and your leaders. When leaders do something you disagree with, sides are chosen and the debate begins, flooding Facebook and social media with hatred and anger–two emotions that never help solve an argument.
As Christians, we are called to live in a different way, seeking truth and showing grace and love to those we disagree with. Whether or not we agree with our leader’s choices, we need to be lifting them up in prayer, asking God to bless them with wisdom and well-being. We are not called to be silent when we see things that go against God’s Word, but, if something needs to be said, take the time to pray and ponder your words carefully.
Prayer: Dear God, please help the leaders in the world today. Give them wisdom and help them lead well, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Amen.
