“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:24-27 ESV.
Let me tell you… there is nothing worse than a weak foundation. Less than a month after we moved in to our first home, we figured out that. Torrential rain made me feel like the whole house was going to wash away. While the erosion damage in the clay soil wasn’t that bad, it would have done damage if we hadn’t fixed it.
Everyone knows the verse about the foolish man building his house on sand and the wise man building his house on solid ground. What isn’t mentioned is the man who shored up his foundation with solid ground. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what you start out with. If you’ve made mistakes, God can fix them. Don’t give up hope if you’ve built your whole life ignoring His truths. Get rid of the sand and shore up your foundation with His words. Then the rains will fall, the floods will come, and the winds will beat on your house, but you will stay strong.
Prayer: Lord, help me build my foundation on your truths. Be my rock and my stability in these difficult times. Give me strength to stand through the storm. Amen.
